If there is any other book containing more stories of evidential mediumship under one cover, I am unaware of it. Author and editor Maxine Meilleur has collected more than 200 of the most interesting and intriguing cases in the annals of mediumship and psychical research, summarizing each one in what amounts to something of an encyclopedia of the subject."Modern" means anything going back to the Fox Sisters in 1848 It includes some of the great names of mediumship, including D. D. Home, Stainton Moses, Leonora Piper, Gladys Osborne Leonard, Hester Dowden, Rosemary Brown, Geraldine Cummins, Emma Hardinge Britten, Nettie Colburn, Cora Richmond, Leslie Flint, Sophia Williams, Alec Harris, Minnie Harrison, Helen Duncan, Harry Edwards, Isa Northage, Kathleen Goligher, Pearl Curran, and many others.Meilleur, who has a graduate degree from Harvard University, has categorized the subject matter beginning with absent healing, apports, and automatic writing, and extending through cross-correspondence tests, direct voice, levitations, and materializations, and on to teleportation, trance sittings, and xenoglossy. She has included many instances of mediumship through trance, healing, and physical phenomena and some great moments in modern clairvoyance, although she intends to offer many more of these in a second book. (She points out that mediumship does indeed rely on clairvoyance and other psychic abilities, but mediumship goes beyond psychic impressions to link with spirit and provide evidence of spirit communication.)"These great moments are not unexplainable miracles," Meilleur points out in the Introduction, going on to explain that they involved ordinary people and that many of them were attested to by prominent scientists, even Nobel laureates. This book would be an excellent primer for anyone not acquainted with the subject and a good refresher for those familiar with it, as well as an easy reference book on the subject of mediumship.

If you're fascinated in what some of the greatest mediums of all time have achieved and shown us, then you may possibly find you have already amassed a large collection of books containing some of these snippets. That's a word which doesn't do these accounts justice at all of course- they are accounts of truly remarkable events, mediums and their work. However, I don't know of any other book which brings it all together so expertly as it has been done here, and as an avid reader on the topic already there were many gems in here I hadn't come across yet.All in all if there's one book on the subject you really should have, it's this one. It'll give you a wonderful overview and is knitted together in a way which really works, with excellent observations and explanations from the author.

If you are a medium, a teacher of mediumship or a student of psychic research you need to get a copy of Great Moments of Modern Mediumship, volume 1. Never before have we seen in one book such a collection of more than 200 of the most interesting and intriguing cases in the history of psychical research and mediumship over the last 160 years. It has chapters on direct voice, apports, materialization, healing, xenoglossy and much more. The author has categorized each one into what amounts to something of an encyclopedia on the subject. Although I have been researching the topic for 25 years I found real gems that I had not encountered before. I cannot recommend this book too highly.
